Here Is A Method That Is Helping FRENCH ONION SOUP RECIPE
FRENCH ONION SOUP
Ingredients:
Five or six large onions- about 4 cups, French Sliced
2 to 3 cloves garlic, minced
3 to 4 Tablespoons Butter
½ cup Burgundy
1 envelope Lipton Beefy Onion Soup
4 cups chicken stock, preferably homemade
Splash of Worcestershire Sauce
¼ to ½ teaspoon Thyme
Sliced French or Italian Bread
Cheese of choice (We used Baby Swiss)
Caramelize onions and garlic in butter. This will take about a half an hour.
Add wine to deglaze pan if necessary. As I use cast iron it’s not necessary to do so as the pans are so well seasoned that nothing sticks to them!
Combine onion/wine mixture with Beefy Onion, chicken stock, Thyme and Worcestershire Sauce. Simmer about an hour and a half.
Place soup in a bowl, top with a slice of toasted bread- You can toast one or both sides- depending on if you are using a toaster or a broiler for toasting purposes. Top bread with grated cheese and broil until cheese melts and looks toasty.
If you happen to have a fresh bay leaf, feel free to add it- but it is strictly optional.
